What'cha doin'? (20070126172821_0020)

We had friends over for dinner last night, so we did steaks on the grill and roasted new potatoes.  The meal was, as always, great (thanks, Honey!).  Since we now have one, we decided to eat in the dining room on the front side of the house.  This wouldn’t normally be an issue, but we haven’t purchased curtains for the dining room windows yet.  So as we sat for dinner, it felt like we were on stage with an audience just beyond the dark windows.  Our neighborhood is quiet, moderately hilly, and sidewalk free, so the chances are slim of anyone A) being outside on our street & B) caring about what we’re having for dinner.  Regardless, I really feel the need to do some curtain shopping in the near future.

IMAGE: Xavier & Alex have decided that they like our back yard.  At least they like it when it’s warmish out.  They were listening to our neighbors dog bark, when I started snapping pictures.  The shutter noise got their attention and they looked my way.

 Our New Puppies

I’d like you to meet the two newest Engels!  Originally named Stuffing (the rottie) & Pecan Pie (the tan), as they were born on Thanksgiving, the renaming process is under way.  Taryn has settled on Xavier (t.p.f.k.a.* Stuffing) and I’m still mulling over names for Pecan Pie.  My current favorites being Jake & Alex.  We adopted these litter brothers from the Wake County SPCA yesterday.  I didn’t know until recently that pups born in one litter can have different fathers, but these two make that pretty obvious. In spite of our expectations, they slept soundly through their first night, crying only twice to be let out for a quick constitutional.  The cats seem to be adjusting well to them.  Oscar & Felix learned to pretty much ignore them within half an hour of being introduced, and Casey… well, he’s been in hiding for the past 24 hours.  It may take a while to convince him that these guys really are his little brothers.

I had forgotten that this race, the Krispy Kreme Challenge, even existed, but now it’s back and bigger than ever!  There is a $1 bounty up for the first Flickr photographer to get a picture of one of the runners… um… having donut retention failure. ;)   We have so got to watch this!!!

It's Going to be an Interesting Night (20070121184152_0165)

We had a good time entertaining Laura this weekend, as she was visiting us from Virginia Beach.  She’s one of my oldest and tree-huggingest friends… bless her heart. :)   If you get a chance to meet her, and she tries to explain “Sport Billy” to you, just walk away.

We also went to our first Carolina Rollergirls event on Sunday.  It was a lot of fun, and would have been even funnerer if I’d taken my camera away from my face for five minutes to have a beer and chat with the flickrati in attendance.  Some people call this an obsession….

About our leak… An engineer came by and tore open a couple of walls in search of the source of the leak.  He found it, and now I have to figure out how to fix it.  It is going to be a lot of work, to say the least.

IMAGE:  Not all the rollergirls were racing, some where cheerleading.  This girl was my favorite.

This computer interface, from Perceptive Pixel, is really really amazing!  It is, apparently, straight of out the movie Minority Report, and it seems like it could be the direction computer interfaces could grow over the next few years.  With the popularity of the Wacom products, at least amongst photographers and other graphics creatives, is already a step in that direction.
