The other day Beebo_Wallace announced that he was doing the One Hundred Pushup Challenge.  I thought that was a great idea, and since I’m already working on getting back into shape with running and situps, I jumped on that bandwagon as well.  I don’t expect it to be easy, and I fully expect to annoy my wife to death with my bitching and moaning…  but it’ll be worth it in the end.  I’m going to post my progress here each day.  This will do two things: 1) help me keep focused on my goal and staying on track, and 2) help my friends shame me into sticking with it.  I promise to do my best on the former, and I’m sure my friends will do their part on the latter!

Initial Test = 10 pushups

Day 2 (redux) / Sunday / 20080817
Goal: 9, 8, 6, 5, 7+
Rests Between Sets: 90 seconds
Done: 9, 8, 6, 5, 7
Notes: These were a bit tougher than Friday’s, but that’s probably partially due to doing them after I did a bit of yardwork (raking).  But I did them before my run and situps, so that helped.  Looking forward to Tuesday’s.

Day 1 (redux) / Friday / 20080815
Goal: 7, 7, 5, 4, 5+
Rests Between Sets: 60 seconds
Done: 7, 7, 5, 4, 6
Notes: I dropped the ball on my first attempt at this hundred pushup thing.  Now, a month later, I’m rebooting.  I walked for 78 minutes this morning at about six thirty, then waited until almost ten thirty to do my pushups.  That made a difference, because I was able to easily to Day 1’s goals.  And I didn’t feel like my head was going to explode this time.

Day 2 / Friday / 20080718
Goal: 9, 8, 6, 5, 7+
Rests Between Sets: 90 seconds
Done: 9, 8, 6, 5, 11 (but the last set was done from my knees, not my feet)
Notes: I was right.  This sucks.  I am not enjoying it, but I’m still going.  I need to lose about 80 pounds to be in pushup shape.  And to think I was going to add pullups to this routine when I hit the 100 mark.

Day 1 / Tuesday / 20080715
Goal: 7, 7, 5, 4, 5+
Rests Between Sets: 60 seconds
Done: 7, 7, 5, 4, 8 (but the last eight were done from my knees, not my feet)
Notes: This is *so* gonna’ suck.  Got back from our walk 2.69 miles, and did my situps and pushups.  I felt fine until the pushups, and now I’ve got a splitting headache.  Can we say, “Eat Less, Run More”?
